Welcome!
The following pages represent my time spent at the University of Colorado - Denver while completing my Masters in eLearning Design and Implementation.
My name is William Hupe. I am an instructional designer for the Crisis Prevention Institute (www.crisisprevention.com) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For the past 30 years, the Crisis Prevention Institute produces a wide range of products meant for the de-escalation of those in crisis by those who are responsible for their care. These de-escalation techniques can be applicable to education, healthcare and human services. It is by such means that the organizational goals of promoting care, welfare, safety and security are achieved by trained participants. I have the fortune of not only designing and developing this curriculum, but also have been a certified instructor for the last three years. I have trained this content in a variety of formats from instructor lead, blended offerings, and asynchronous elearning options. Each offering presents new challenges in effectively engaging the learner while ensuring that the overall learning experiences achieves the highest potential of learning transfer.
I view the field of instructional design as a journey where the concept of being a student for life is embraced to ensure that the synergy between the art and science of instructional design is consistently utilized. This can involve sequencing the content to allow the student the opportunity to reflect back on previous content and reach their goal of when the content “clicks” to embracing change and advocating the use of a new instructional strategy to introduce new methods of development, software or an overall fresh approach at current design and development practices.
Outside of work I continue to uphold my drive of continued learning. I have spent several years living abroad in Spain, Mexico and Japan where I have developed an appreciation for other languages and cultures. This provides myself with critical insight in localization while developing content for a global audience. I have been and avid PADI scuba diver and work with the Wisconsin Underwater Archaeological Association (www.wuaa.org) on volunteer projects promoting the preservation of Wisconsin’s maritime heritage both above and below the surface of Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. In addition I fly drones and craft wine as alternate hobbies.
I welcome you the opportunity to view my portfolio! It has been both a journey of professional growth and personal satisfaction to have reached this point. Thank you!
